About Us
The Welsh Centre for Learning Disability
Inclusive Research (CIC):
Who are we?
We are an inclusive community interest company (CIC) providing research, evaluation and consultation to support voice, choice and control for people with learning disabilities and/or neurodivergent people.
The company is directed by people with learning disabilities, disabled and neurodivergent people.
All of our work employs people with learning disabilities, disabled or neurodivergent people as researchers.
Our acronym is: WCLD
We are a not for profit company. Any money we make from our activities goes to support our work.
Why was this company set up?
The WCLD was set up in June 2025, as a spinoff from the Engage to Change Research and Evaluation project (Research and Evaluation - Engage to Change).
This project was run by two researchers from Cardiff University who worked with people with learning disabilities across Wales to do co-produced and accessible research.
The researchers and people with learning disabilities they worked with felt it was time that people with learning disabilities were more in control of research about their own lives.
What do we want to do?
We are dedicated to empowering people with learning disabilities and/or neurodivergent people by providing opportunities to lead, contribute to and benefit from quality inclusive research.
We want to influence better support, services, and meaningful social change.
We want to do this in an accessible and inclusive way, that is led by people with lived experience.
We aim to challenge existing barriers to participation in research.
